Gun Rights & Public Safety:

A Responsible Path Forward

As a gun owner, a father, and a former teacher, I understand the importance of both protecting our rights and protecting our family. I believe the Second Amendment is part of our Constitution—and I also believe that with every right comes a responsibility.

There are more guns than people in America. And while most gun owners are responsible, the real threat lies in who has the gun, not who holds the right.

We’ve seen too many lives lost—at schools, churches, concerts, and grocery stores—to ignore the need for action. The status quo isn’t working. But that doesn’t mean we throw out our rights. It means we act with common sense.

Here’s what I support:

  • Background checks for all gun purchases

  • Safe and secure storage of firearms at home

  • Red Flag laws that allow temporary removal of firearms from individuals in crisis, with due process

  • Gun registration and serial number verification for all sales, including private transactions

  • Accountability for illegal sales and trafficking of firearms

None of this prevents law-abiding citizens from owning a firearm for protection, sport, or tradition. I own a firearm for protection—just like many families in our district.

But we have to be honest: easy access to firearms without oversight is fueling a crisis. We can’t ignore it. And we can’t fix it by doing nothing.

This isn’t about taking away anyone’s guns. It’s about keeping guns out of the wrong hands—and keeping our kids, neighbors, and first responders safe.

That’s the balance I’ll fight for: freedom with responsibility, rights with accountability, and safety with integrity.

Un Camino Responsable

Como propietario de un arma, padre y ex maestro, entiendo la importancia de proteger tanto nuestros derechos como a nuestras familias. Creo en la Segunda Enmienda y también creo que todo derecho conlleva una responsabilidad.

Hay más armas que personas en Estados Unidos. Y aunque la mayoría de los propietarios son responsables, la verdadera amenaza está en quién tiene el arma, no en quién tiene el derecho.

Hemos visto demasiadas vidas perdidas en escuelas, iglesias, conciertos y supermercados como para seguir ignorando la necesidad de actuar. El status quo no funciona. Pero eso no significa renunciar a nuestros derechos. Significa actuar con sentido común.

Esto es lo que apoyo:

  • Revisión de antecedentes penales para todas las compras de armas

  • Almacenamiento seguro y responsable de armas en el hogar

  • Leyes de alerta (Red Flags) que permitan retirar temporalmente armas a personas en crisis, con el debido proceso

  • Registro de armas y verificación de números de serie para todas las ventas, incluidas las privadas

  • Responsabilidad ante la venta y tráfico ilegal de armas

Nada de esto impide que ciudadanos responsables tengan un arma para defensa, cacería o deporte. Yo tengo un arma para proteger a mi familia, como muchas otras personas en nuestro distrito.

Pero debemos ser honestos: el acceso fácil a armas sin supervisión está alimentando una crisis. No podemos ignorarlo. Y no vamos a solucionarlo sin hacer nada.

Esto no se trata de quitarle las armas a nadie. Se trata de mantenerlas fuera de las manos equivocadas y de mantener seguros a nuestros niños, vecinos y personal de emergencias.

Ese es el equilibrio por el que lucharé: libertad con responsabilidad, derechos con rendición de cuentas, y seguridad con integridad.
